Bicycle traffic stop leads to arrest on multiple charges

On December 20, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a deputy from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in Eureka, California. The stop occurred near the intersection of 5th Street and K Street when the deputy observed a man riding one bicycle and pushing another without visible lights or reflectors.

The individual was identified as Steven Waggoner, 24, from Blue Lake. Waggoner was on probation for felony burglary and petty theft convictions. During a search conducted under his probation terms, the deputy found 3.73 grams of methamphetamine and a pipe with residue in Waggoner’s pockets. Additionally, in his backpack were sandwich bags containing 19 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 5.8 ounces of marijuana, a revolver firearm, and multiple rounds of ammunition.

Waggoner was arrested without incident and taken to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. He faces several charges including possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm (HS 11370.1(a)), possession of controlled substances such as mushrooms (HS 11350(a)) and methamphetamines (HS 11377(a)), possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia (HS 11364(a)), violation of probation (PC 1203.2(a)), being a felon or prohibited person in possession of a firearm (PC 29800(a)(1)), and being in possession of ammunition (PC 35305(a)(1)).
