On December 10, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a body floating near a dock in Humboldt Bay. The call came in around 9:30 a.m., and officers were dispatched to Comet Street near Samoa.

Upon arrival, a Special Services Division Deputy moved the body to shore and confirmed it was that of a deceased female. The Deputy Coroner was summoned, and personnel from the Major Crimes Division were also present as a precautionary measure.

The deceased has been identified as Krystal Shinka, 43, from Eureka. She had been reported missing to the Eureka Police Department on December 9 after not being seen since December 5.

An autopsy for Shinka is scheduled for later this week. The manner of her death remains undetermined as investigations continue.

The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude towards Humboldt Bay Fire for their assistance in retrieving the body from the bay.
