Earlier this year in July, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) responded to a report of a bone discovery in the Redway area. An additional search with specialized K-9 units did not uncover further findings.

The bone was sent to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for identification. On November 14, the DOJ confirmed it as the left tibia of Mark Burleigh, age 39, who has been missing since 2017. Search efforts will continue as part of the ongoing missing person investigation.

This case remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about this case or related criminal activity is encouraged to call the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.
