Fortuna Rehabilitation and Wellness Center, LP leads Humboldt County in nursing home capacity in Q1

Fortuna Rehabilitation and Wellness Center, LP was identified as Humboldt County’s largest nursing home for the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

Records indicate the facility offered 104 beds, exceeding the Humboldt County average by 23 in the same period. It cared for an average of 90.4 residents per day.

The center received an overall CMS rating of 1 out of 5, lower than California’s average nursing home rating of 3.2.

For the quarter, Eureka Rehabilitation & Wellness Center, LP and Seaview Rehabilitation & Wellness Center, LP were the county’s second largest, maintaining 99 beds each.

By the end of the first quarter of 2026, Fortuna Rehabilitation and Wellness Center, LP had incurred three fines totaling $184,576 and faced three penalties.

There were a total of four for-profit nursing homes in Humboldt County, California, during this period.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show that the nation’s older adult population is rising while younger demographic numbers fall. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and older increased by 13%, as the under-18 population declined 1.7%. “Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
