Hill Fire prompts evacuations and road closures south of Willow Creek

The Hill Fire, ignited by a lightning strike on Monday evening, continues to burn south of Willow Creek in the Mosquito Creek Drainage. As a result, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has issued an Evacuation Order for several zones: HUM-E077-A, HUM-E077-C, HUM-E077-B, and HUM-E076-A. Residents already evacuated from these zones are not permitted to return. Those remaining should evacuate immediately.

Additionally, an Evacuation Warning is in place for zones HUM-E076-B, HUM-E114-D, HUM-E100-A, HUM-E063-B, HUM-E063-A, HUM-E052-A, and HUM-E062. Residents in these areas should be prepared to evacuate if conditions worsen.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services has established an Evacuation Center at Trinity Valley Elementary School in Willow Creek. The center will remain open until 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Road closures are currently affecting Friday Ridge Rd. at Forest Service Route 6N06 and other routes. Redwood Acres in Eureka has been activated as a CAL FIRE Incident Management Base Camp and is closed to the public for at least two weeks.

The U.S. Forest Service has temporarily closed all roads, trails, and land within the area impacted by the Hill Fire on the Lower Trinity Ranger District of the Six Rivers National Forest as of Thursday.
