Rep. Jared Huffman, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 2nd district since 2013, has been vocal about various political and environmental issues on social media. His recent tweets address concerns ranging from federal budget debates to ocean conservation efforts.

On June 4, 2025, Huffman expressed opposition to the Republican budget proposal, stating that “Democrats are united in fighting to stop Republicans’ devastating budget from becoming law.” He criticized Republicans for being a “rubber stamp” for Donald Trump’s agenda, suggesting it would negatively impact everyday Americans.

Later that day, Huffman shared his commitment to environmental causes. He highlighted his dedication to ocean stewardship by mentioning his receipt of the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation’s Ocean Leadership Award. He tweeted, “From defending America’s coastlines to preventing offshore drilling to protecting precious ecosystems…”

On June 5, 2025, Huffman addressed threats to NOAA’s operations by what he termed as “extreme Republicans.” In his tweet he emphasized that “NOAA’s weather forecasts and climate data are free, accurate, and life-saving,” criticizing Project 2025’s intentions to privatize weather forecasting services and undermine scientific work at NOAA.

Jared Huffman was born in Independence, Missouri in 1964 and resides in San Rafael. He graduated with a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1986 and earned a JD from Boston College in 1990.
