On June 7, the Humboldt County Animal Shelter will participate in California Adopt-a-Pet Day by offering fee-waived adoptions. This event is part of a statewide initiative aimed at finding homes for 5,000 animals in a single day.
The shelter will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with all adoption fees waived thanks to support from the ASPCA and event organizers. Prospective adopters must have an approved application before meeting any animals. Applications can be submitted online at humboldtgov.org/Animal-Shelter, where adoptable pets are also listed.
Adopters with dogs at home are encouraged to bring them along for introductions with potential new pets. Renters should apply in advance so staff can verify landlord permissions.
Each adopted animal will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before leaving the shelter. The event aims to surpass last year’s success when over 3,600 animals were adopted in one day.
