On March 4, at approximately 11:20 a.m., a Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a vehicle investigation near Brennan Mountain Road in Willow Creek. The driver, identified as Russell Taylor, 35, from Blue Lake, was confirmed to be on two counts of formal probation. Under the terms of his probation, the deputy searched the vehicle and discovered a fully operational firearm without a serial number and with its barrel cut short.

Taylor was subsequently arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on several charges. These include being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm (PC 29800(a)(1)), possessing a manufactured weapon with a short-barreled rifle or shotgun (PC 33215), and for rearrest/revocation of probation (PC 1203.2(a)).

During processing at the correctional facility, Taylor was found to have 0.69 grams of methamphetamine in his possession. As a result, he faced an additional charge for possession of a controlled substance in a California jail or state prison (PC 4573.6(a)).

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information about this case or related criminal activities to contact them at (707) 445-7251 or through their Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.
