Humboldt County deputies arrest suspect after Loleta assault with glass bottle

On October 9, 2025, Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported physical altercation on the 100 block of Main Street in Loleta. According to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, the incident involved a 29-year-old man who had been struck in the head with a glass bottle.

Deputies requested emergency medical personnel to remain nearby until they determined the area was safe. Upon arrival, they found the victim with a head laceration. The man received treatment at the scene and was later transported to a local hospital for further care. He was subsequently released.

The investigation, which included witness statements, indicated that the victim had been ambushed and assaulted by Miguel Angel Moreno, 21, of Rio Dell. Authorities reported that Moreno left the scene before deputies arrived.

Deputies later located Moreno at a local hospital, where he was being treated for minor injuries related to the altercation. He was arrested and taken to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. Moreno faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon (P.C. 245(a)(1)), battery with serious bodily injury (P.C. 243(d)), and violation of probation (P.C. 1203.2(a)).
