On August 1, 2025, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office began investigating a theft from a vehicle that occurred in the 200 block of F Street in Blue Lake. The incident, which took place the previous night, led deputies to discover that three suspects had used stolen credit cards at several businesses throughout Humboldt County.

Through their investigation, deputies identified all three individuals involved. Two suspects have been arrested and charged with multiple offenses.

Michael Dwayne Vanwert, 41, of Eureka, faces charges including petty theft with prior convictions, fraudulent use of a credit card, conspiracy, and probation violation under various California Penal Code sections. Crystle Dawn Angel, 35, also of Eureka, has been charged with grand theft, shoplifting, and conspiracy.

“If these names sound familiar, it is because both individuals were previously arrested for similar crimes just a few months ago,” the release stated. Authorities have identified the third suspect and are continuing efforts to apprehend them.

“The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to pursuing all individuals involved in this incident and protecting the rights and privacy of Humboldt County residents,” according to the statement.
