Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an attempted homicide on August 19, 2025, at approximately 9:27 p.m. The incident occurred in the 1900 block of Strawberry Ct. in McKinleyville.
According to the Humboldt County Emergency Communications Center, a series of text messages were sent to 9-1-1 indicating that a male subject inside the residence was physically assaulting and attempting to stab his mother and had started a fire.
Upon arrival, deputies observed a young male adult exiting the residence with his hands raised above his head. He was immediately detained by law enforcement. Based on statements from witnesses and the victim, Hunter Taula-Sanson, age 18, of Waianae, Hawaii, was arrested. He was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and booked on charges including attempted homicide (P.C. 664/187(A)), assault with a deadly weapon (P.C. 245(A)(4)), criminal threats (P.C. 422(A)), felony vandalism (P.C. 594(A)(2)), and brandishing a deadly weapon (P.C.417(A)(1)).
The case remains under investigation.
