The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has released an update on the officer-involved shooting that took place near the Bear River Family Entertainment Center in Loleta on June 5, 2025. The deputy involved has been identified as Corporal Bradford Anderson, who has served with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office for nine years. In accordance with standard protocol, Corporal Anderson is currently on paid administrative leave.

The individual involved in the incident, Nicholas David Anderson, born May 2, 1996, died from injuries sustained during the event. A forensic autopsy determined that a gunshot wound to the chest was the immediate cause of death. Toxicology results are still pending.

The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the Humboldt County Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT). As it progresses, further details will be shared in line with California State Law.
