Rep. Jared Huffman, who represents California’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, has recently used his social media platform to address a series of national policy concerns, including federal agency funding, plastic pollution, and the situation in Puerto Rico.
On August 6, 2025, Huffman criticized proposed budget cuts by House Republicans: “House Republicans are slashing the federal agencies that Americans depend on every day for free, accurate weather data and emergency information. On #TheFlipSide, I’m doing everything I can to protect them.”
The following day, August 7, Huffman advocated for environmental reform through legislative action: “We need real commitments to reduce plastic and phase out avoidable chemicals across the country. I sent a letter with @SenWhitehouse and @SenJeffMerkley to @SecRubio asking the Trump administration to end plastic pollution and protect these interests on the world stage.”
Later on August 7, he addressed recent developments concerning personnel changes under former President Trump’s administration related to Puerto Rico: “This latest Trump firing spree is shocking and does nothing to address the crises currently impacting Puerto Ricans. The public deserves answers. Congress deserves answers. And the people of Puerto Rico deserve better.”
Jared Huffman has represented California’s 2nd District in Congress since replacing Lynn Woolsey in 2013; prior to that he served in the California State Assembly from 2006 until 2012. Born in Independence, Missouri in 1964 and now residing in San Rafael at age 59, Huffman holds a BA from UC Santa Barbara (1986) and a JD from Boston College (1990).
