Jared Huffman, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 2nd district since 2013, has recently expressed strong opposition to a Republican bill he describes as detrimental to the American people. Huffman, who replaced Lynn Woolsey in Congress and previously served in the California State Assembly, shared his concerns through a series of tweets.

On July 2, 2025, Huffman criticized the impact of the Republicans’ proposed legislation on his district. He stated that “In our district alone, Republicans’ disastrous bill will cut over 5000 jobs, rob food assistance from over 10,000 children, and increase health care premiums by over $3000 for those covered by the Affordable Care Act.” He described the bill as “an undeniable betrayal of the American people.”

Later that day, Huffman addressed what he referred to as “Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill,” outlining its national implications. According to him, ” Kicks 17 million people off their health care Takes away food assistance from 5 million people Adds $4 trillion to the national debt”. He concluded that President Trump is not only ignoring Americans’ needs but also exacerbating current issues.

On July 3, Huffman released a statement regarding the House’s passage of President Trump’s bill. He directed followers to read more via a link provided in his tweet: “My statement on the House passing President Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill: https://t.co/ysmop2KvLU”

Jared Huffman was born in Independence, Missouri in 1964 and currently resides in San Rafael. He graduated with a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1986 and earned his JD from Boston College in 1990.
