Jared Huffman, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 2nd district since 2013, has been vocal on social media about various legislative issues. On May 6, 2025, he criticized House Republicans for their proposed budget cuts. “House Republicans’ budget cuts national park funding, slashes clean air & water protections, and pushes the most extreme anti-environment bill in American history as the cherry on top,” he stated. Huffman accused Republicans of avoiding public scrutiny while Democrats highlighted what he termed a “billionaire giveaway.”

On May 7, 2025, Huffman shared an update regarding efforts to address unresolved criminal cases in Humboldt County. He noted his role in securing funds to clear cold case backlogs: “In 2024, I helped secure funding for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office to clear a backlog of cold cases.” He expressed hope that recent developments would bring peace to Josephine Medin’s family after her disappearance remained unsolved for over three decades.

Later that day, Huffman commented on an analysis concerning Republican budget proposals. “A nonpartisan analysis now confirms that the Republican budget scheme will strip coverage and benefits from millions of Americans,” he asserted. Huffman accused Republicans of misleading the public about their plans and emphasized Democratic efforts to counteract these measures.

Jared Huffman was born in Independence, Missouri in 1964 and currently resides in San Rafael. He graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a BA in 1986 and earned his JD from Boston College in 1990.
