Rep. Jared Huffman, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 2nd district since 2013, recently took to social media to express his views on recent legislative actions by House Republicans. His comments focused on budget cuts and economic policies he believes are detrimental to American families.

On May 15, 2025, Huffman criticized House Republicans for their decision to cut $300 billion in food assistance from the budget. He stated that these cuts were made “all to pay for ridiculous tax breaks for billionaires,” and accused them of “throwing the American people under the bus” to benefit former President Trump and his wealthy allies. “House Republicans have cut $300 BILLION in food assistance from the budget — all to pay for ridiculous tax breaks for billionaires.”

Later that day, Huffman addressed another issue involving trade tariffs. He claimed that Republicans voted to maintain what he described as Trump’s “reckless tariffs” while prohibiting Congress from intervening. In response, Huffman declared his intention to oppose these measures through initiatives such as #TheFlipSide aimed at reducing living costs. “Republicans voted to protect Trump’s reckless tariffs and ban Congress from putting a stop to this madness.”

On May 16, 2025, Huffman further critiqued the Republican party’s new budget proposal, asserting it would not benefit Americans as intended. He mentioned his efforts on #TheFlipSide where he plans to introduce amendments and legislation designed to offer real assistance. “Don’t be fooled — Republicans’ new budget won’t do anything to actually help the American people.”

Jared Huffman was born in Independence, Missouri in 1964 and resides in San Rafael. He graduated with a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1986 and earned a JD from Boston College in 1990.
