Huffman, who succeeded Lynn Woolsey in Congress in 2013, has been vocal about policies affecting Medicaid and the actions of prominent figures like Elon Musk and Donald Trump.
On February 19, 2025, Huffman criticized former President Donald Trump for his stance on Medicaid spending. He highlighted an inconsistency between Trump’s previous statement against cutting Medicaid and his current support for a plan that proposes over $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. Huffman remarked that “Trump has once again gone back on his word – betraying the needs of the American people in the process.”
Later that day, Huffman accused Elon Musk and alleged “corrupt DOGE hackers” of targeting federal agencies such as the Social Security Administration and IRS to access private data. He stated that “An unelected billionaire should not be allowed to sort through your PRIVATE records. This is unacceptable.”
On February 20, 2025, Huffman addressed what he perceives as misleading claims by Musk and Trump regarding cost-saving measures through mass firings. He asserted that their actions do not result in significant financial savings but instead harm public servants’ livelihoods. In his words: “They need to stop the lies and destruction now.”
