Jared Huffman, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 2nd district since 2013, has been vocal on various pressing issues through his social media presence. Born in Independence, Missouri, and currently residing in San Rafael, Huffman holds a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a JD from Boston College.
On May 5, 2025, Huffman highlighted the urgent need for environmental conservation by introducing two bills aimed at strengthening protections for species amid an escalating biodiversity crisis. In his tweet commemorating Migratory Bird Day, he stated: “As the world faces an escalating biodiversity crisis, now is a critical moment to establish lasting protections for all species. In honor of Migratory Bird Day this week, I introduced 2 bills to strengthen these protections and help commercial and business interests comply.”
Later that day, Huffman addressed violence against Native women and girls on the National Day of Awareness for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Peoples. He expressed his commitment to justice with these words: “Native women and girls suffer disproportionately high levels of attacks, violence and rape. Today, on the National Day of Awareness for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Peoples, I commit to honoring Native voices, demanding justice, and working to end this #SilentCrisis.”
On May 6, 2025, Huffman criticized former President Donald Trump’s policies regarding their impact on the economy. He argued that House Republicans are exacerbating economic difficulties by proposing budget cuts affecting health care and food assistance programs. His statement read: “Donald Trump’s reckless policies are crashing the economy in real time. Instead of lowering costs, House Republicans are doing the exact opposite: pushing a budget that cuts health care and food assistance for millions of children and their families.”
Jared Huffman’s career includes serving in the California State Assembly from 2006 to 2012 before succeeding Lynn Woolsey in Congress.
