Huffman, who succeeded Lynn Woolsey in Congress and previously served in the California State Assembly, used his platform to address matters affecting American citizens.
On March 3, 2025, Huffman criticized Speaker Johnson and House Republicans for their alleged plans to alter key social programs. He stated that “Over 100 million Americans rely on Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid – and Speaker Johnson and House Republicans have been scheming to rip these benefits away.” He emphasized that he joined over 200 House Democrats in demanding the protection of these essential services.
The following day, March 4, 2025, Huffman commented on potential repercussions of policy changes under former President Trump’s administration. He warned that “Firing scientists & civil servants and slashing useful programs will cost the American people.” He highlighted the risks associated with privatizing agencies like NOAA which provide critical weather forecasts.
Later on March 4th, Huffman addressed an upcoming event where former President Trump was expected to discuss his administration’s achievements. In his tweet he noted: “Tonight, we’re going to hear Trump brag about the abysmal things his admin has done—mass layoffs…” While planning to attend Trump’s address, Huffman clarified that he did not support the policies being discussed.
