Rep. Jared Huffman, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 2nd district since 2013, has used his social media platform to address concerns over an impending government shutdown and its potential impacts on health care and the American public.

On September 24, 2025, Huffman wrote: “The government shuts down in 6 days. Republicans created a health care crisis, then pushed a spending bill they knew was doomed to fail… and now their wannabe dictator Trump won’t even negotiate. Their inability to govern is out of control and hurting the American people.”

Continuing his commentary the following day, Huffman posted: “If Republicans and Trump keep refusing to negotiate and shut down the government, Americans everywhere will feel the impacts. My team and I are working around the clock to avoid this catastrophe, but we’ve compiled the information you need in the event of a shutdown “ (September 25, 2025).

Later that same day, he added: “Your health care could skyrocket from massive cuts Republicans made in the One Big Ugly Bill to fund billionaire tax giveaways. They control Washington and the ball is in their court: show up & negotiate with Dems to lower costs or steamroll America into another Trump Shutdown.” (September 25, 2025).

Jared Huffman has served in Congress since replacing Lynn Woolsey in 2013 after previously serving in the California State Assembly from 2006 to 2012. Born in Independence, Missouri in 1964 and currently residing in San Rafael, Huffman holds degrees from UC Santa Barbara (BA) and Boston College (JD). He continues to be an active voice on legislative issues affecting both his constituents and national policy.
