Rep. Jared Huffman, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 2nd district since 2013, used his social media platform in late May and early June to encourage voter participation and highlight the importance of social programs for seniors.
On May 30, Huffman posted a message reminding Californians about early voting options ahead of the state’s election: “California’s election is Tuesday, but you don’t have to wait until election day to vote. You can vote early at a local voting site or return your ballot to a secure ballot drop box. For details on your voting options and locations, visit the CA SOS’s website:”
As Election Day approached, Huffman reiterated his call for civic engagement. On June 2, he wrote, “It’s not too late to cast your vote. Head to your closest polling location to cast your vote by 8pm TONIGHT!  Thank you for being a key part of our democratic process and making your voices heard.”
Later that same day, Huffman turned attention to federal policy issues impacting seniors. He stated, “These folks’ stories inspire my work in Congress. As Trump and Republicans keep slashing essential services, I’m fighting to protect programs that keep seniors healthy and connected. Thanks to the staff and volunteers who make Meals on Wheels possible.”
Jared Huffman has represented California’s 2nd District in Congress since replacing Lynn Woolsey in 2013. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the California State Assembly from 2006 to 2012. Born in Independence, Missouri in 1964, Huffman currently resides in San Rafael at age 59. He holds a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara (1986) and earned his JD from Boston College in 1990.
