The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) has announced that it has received a grant from the Christine and Jalmer Berg Foundation for the second consecutive year to support its K-9 program. This year’s grant amounts to $55,536, following last year’s award of $53,021.
Deputy Esget played a key role in securing the grant by personally delivering the application with K-9 Yahtzee and engaging with foundation members to emphasize the needs of the K-9 program.
The Humboldt Deputy Sheriff’s Organization (HDSO), a non-profit entity, was the primary applicant for the grant. The HDSO will receive and donate the funds to HCSO to ensure the continued success of its K-9 program.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office operates four dedicated K-9 teams within its Patrol Division. Each team is trained in protection, apprehension, searching, and either narcotics or firearm detection. The deputies dedicate significant time daily to training and building strong working relationships with their dogs.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Christine and Jalmer Berg Foundation for their ongoing support,” said Sheriff Honsal. “This grant will enhance our K-9 program’s capabilities, allowing us to better protect and serve Humboldt County.”
The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude towards all partners involved in securing this award. For more information about the K-9 program, contact HCSO at 707-445-7251.
