Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office reported that on March 1, 2024, deputies responded to a report of a male subject loitering and making odd comments to a local business owner in Scotia. The individual was identified as 50-year-old James Jones, a resident of Rio Dell. Jones was advised to leave the area.
The situation escalated on March 2 when Jones returned to the same business and was found loitering outside. Deputies provided the business owner with information on obtaining a restraining order. The following day, Jones returned once again, this time waiting in the parking lot for the business owner. Subsequently, he was reported to be standing outside her residence.
Deputies located Jones and upon further investigation, he was taken into custody for stalking, possession of a switchblade knife, and possession of methamphetamine. Jones was then transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and booked on multiple charges.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the case is still under investigation and urged anyone with information on the matter to come forward. They can contact the Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 or the Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.
