A man suspected of shoplifting in McKinleyville, California, was apprehended on March 28 after authorities discovered him in possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Around 1:40 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s Sergeant, stationed in the McKinleyville area, was called to investigate a theft report from a business on the 1700 block of Central Avenue. The reporting party described the suspect as having stolen liquor and clothing.

Upon reaching the 1300 block of Central Avenue, the Sergeant encountered Mason Harris, 38, of Arcata, who matched the provided description. The Sergeant had previously encountered Harris in a theft investigation from September 2024.

The Sergeant’s investigation revealed Harris had numerous outstanding warrants and was on probation for theft and narcotics offenses. A search uncovered a significant amount of suspected methamphetamine, scales, and various drug paraphernalia.

Harris was arrested and taken to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility, where he faced several charges, including possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of a controlled substance, possession of unlawful paraphernalia, and probation violation.

The stolen items were not recovered and are believed to have been discarded before law enforcement contact.
