Deputies from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, working with the California Highway Patrol, conducted a traffic stop on August 10, 2025, at around 11:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of Harris Street in Eureka for a traffic violation.

The driver was identified as Annai Battle and the passenger as Alyssa Hunsucker. Hunsucker is currently on formal probation for narcotics-related convictions. Deputies used K9 Yahtzee to inspect the vehicle, and the dog alerted to possible narcotics. A search led to the discovery of what deputies believe is fentanyl, methamphetamine, digital scales, brass knuckles, and other drug paraphernalia.

Both Battle and Hunsucker were taken to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. They face several charges including transportation of a controlled substance (HS 11379(a)), possession for sale of a controlled substance (HS 11351), sale or transportation of a controlled substance (HS 11352), possession of brass knuckles (PC 21810), possession of drug paraphernalia (HS 11364), and probation violation (PC 1203.2(a)).

In a statement, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office said it is increasing its efforts against illegal narcotics distribution, focusing especially on fentanyl. “Despite aggressive enforcement, the Sheriff’s Office highlights that California law frequently classifies fentanyl possession as a ‘non-violent’ offense, often leading to Superior Court Judges releasing repeat offenders with only a future court date.” The office also stated: “HCSO strongly encourages the community to educate themselves about fentanyl’s lethal risks and to back initiatives that strengthen enforcement and public safety measures to curb this growing threat.”

Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 or use their Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.
