Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance call on December 20 at approximately 7 p.m. in the 6800 block of Harrison Ave., Fields Landing. The incident involved loud screaming and honking from a vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies learned that Sara Maltzman, 39, of Fields Landing, had allegedly stolen a vehicle from the area.

A deputy later spotted Maltzman driving the stolen vehicle along Civic Ave. around 7:45 p.m. and followed her back to a residence on Harrison Ave. Maltzman reportedly fled into the house, ignoring commands from deputies who pursued her inside. She was eventually handcuffed and arrested.

During the arrest, deputies discovered live ammunition in Maltzman’s pocket. As she is subject to a restraining order, possessing ammunition is prohibited for her.

Maltzman was taken to Humboldt County Correctional Facility and charged with taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent (VC 10851(a)), obstructing/resisting a public officer (PC 148(a)(1)), and violating a protective court order (PC 273.6(a)).

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information related to this case or other criminal activities to contact them at (707) 445-7251 or through their Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.
