Law enforcement authorities in Humboldt County, California, are currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred on April 25, 2024, in the 2400 block of Fern Street, Eureka. The incident, which involved a 75-year-old female victim and a suspect, unfolded in a dramatic manner as detailed by the Sheriff's Office.

According to the Sheriff's Office, a White Male Adult approached the 75-year-old woman and shot at her multiple times while she was with her sister in front of her garage. The victim was struck by gunfire, and the suspect fled the scene on foot towards Walnut Avenue. Deputies swiftly responded to the 911 call, and upon arrival, they encountered a subject matching the suspect's description walking on Fern Street.

The deputies engaged with the suspect, who then fled into a nearby residence. The standoff escalated when the suspect emerged from the residence and pointed a firearm at the deputies. In response, one deputy discharged their weapon, injuring the suspect who was subsequently apprehended and provided with medical aid.

The injured suspect and the 75-year-old female victim were both transported to a local hospital for treatment. The incident triggered the activation of the County Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) protocol, with the Humboldt County District Attorney's Office and the Sheriff's Office spearheading the investigation alongside other law enforcement agencies.
