Attempted murder arrest in Eureka

On July 10, 2024, at approximately 12:05 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a stabbing in the 4600 block of Crane St. in Eureka. Upon arrival, deputies detained Maria Hernandez-Ruelas, 25, who was being restrained by individuals at the scene. Deputies also found a 30-year-old female victim with multiple stab wounds and lacerations.

During the investigation, it was determined that Hernandez-Ruelas and the victim were acquainted. The victim was transported to a local hospital with significant injuries.

Hernandez-Ruelas was arrested for attempted homicide (PC 664/187(A)) and subsequently booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility after receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during the assault. The case remains under investigation.
