Response efforts are ongoing after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck offshore of Humboldt County this morning. The National Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, Alaska, issued a tsunami warning for much of the northwestern California coast shortly after the quake. The warning was canceled once it was determined that no residual waves were likely. There is currently no tsunami threat to Humboldt County.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) has been activated and is coordinating with local, regional, and state partners in response to the emergency. No injuries have been reported at this time.

Over 1,000 customers in the county remain without power, with Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) actively working on restoration. For updates on PG&E power outages and restorations, residents can visit pgealerts.alerts.pge.com.

Damage assessments from the earthquake are ongoing throughout Humboldt County. Currently, there are no county road closures. Residents are encouraged to check quickmap.dot.ca.gov for Caltrans road updates and humboldtgov.org/roads for information on county road conditions.
