On December 2, at approximately 7 p.m., deputies from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop in McKinleyville on Central Avenue due to a vehicle's expired registration. The driver, identified as Daniel Byrd, age 35, was unable to provide his driver's license, registration, or proof of insurance when requested by the deputies.

Authorities confirmed that Byrd had prior felony convictions and was on probation for burglary and domestic violence. In accordance with his probation terms, Byrd was asked to exit the vehicle for a search. During this search, deputies discovered ammunition, a firearm holster, a taser, and a U.S. passport card belonging to another individual.

Byrd was subsequently taken into custody and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. He faces several charges including being a felon in possession of ammunition and a taser, violation of probation, expired vehicle registration, and lack of valid insurance.

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office is encouraging anyone with information regarding this case or related criminal activities to contact them at (707) 445-7251 or through their Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.
