The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Coastal Hazard Message today, December 23, warning of a High Surf Warning in effect until 10 p.m. This alert is directed at the coastal regions of Del Norte, Humboldt, and Mendocino Counties.
Humboldt County Sheriff's deputies responded to two separate incidents today at Trinidad State Beach and Moonstone Beach. In both cases, individuals were at risk of drowning after being swept into the water. Fortunately, all four individuals involved were safely rescued and are currently in stable condition.
The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office advises residents to avoid beach areas due to the danger posed by breaking waves that can sweep people off jetties and docks into hazardous seas. The NWS has highlighted life-threatening surf conditions and significant beach erosion as major concerns.
