In December 2024, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) began investigations into multiple shooting incidents. Dauwin Poe, a 19-year-old from McKinleyville, was identified as a suspect and has been taken into custody on several charges related to shootings in Humboldt County and Eureka.

On December 28 around midnight, an altercation occurred at Toni’s 24-Hour Restaurant in Arcata involving Poe and Cote Lincoln, a 38-year-old from Hoopa. Several individuals left the scene at high speed, and one fled to McKinleyville. Poe and Lincoln reportedly pursued the fleeing vehicle, and once past the 1300 block of Central Avenue, Poe allegedly fired shots at it. The vehicles dispersed afterward, and no injuries were reported.

Later that day around 11 p.m., another altercation took place in Hoopa near the Modular Building plant. During this incident, a 23-year-old male sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Poe was identified as the shooter.

Poe is also suspected in a December 27 shooting incident on 3rd Street in Eureka being investigated by the Eureka Police Department (EPD). EPD issued a BOLO ("be on the lookout") for him.

On January 9, HCSO deputies located Poe at the Humboldt Courthouse. He was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility (HCCF) on charges related to another EPD investigation:

- Threats to commit death or great bodily injury—PC 422(a)

- Exhibit a firearm—PC 417(a)(2)

- Conspiracy to commit a crime—PC 182(a)(1)

Further investigations by HCSO led to additional charges against Poe:

- Attempted murder—PC 664/187(a)

- Shooting at inhabited dwelling/vehicle—PC 246

- Conspiracy to commit a crime—PC 182(a)(1)

On January 11, Lincoln was arrested for his involvement in the Central Avenue shooting incident after the altercation at Toni’s. He was booked at HCCF on these warrant charges:

- Conspiracy to commit a crime—PC 1832(a)(1)

- Shooting at inhabited dwelling/vehicle—PC 246

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office or their Crime Tip line.
