High-speed chase ends in arrest of Hydesville man

On January 27, around 5 p.m., a deputy from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office observed a blue Ford Mustang speeding eastbound on Highway 36 in the Carlotta area. When attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver did not yield to emergency lights and sirens and accelerated to 100 mph in a 55 mph zone.

The driver was identified as Kyle Haselip, 24, of Hydesville. He continued east on Highway 36, driving into oncoming traffic near Fern Lane and nearly causing a collision before turning north onto Yager Creek Road at approximately 60 mph. Haselip lost control of his vehicle, which spun out but briefly stopped facing the deputy's patrol car. He then accelerated toward the deputy's vehicle, forcing the officer to maneuver off-road to avoid an accident.

Haselip proceeded north on Yager Creek Road without stopping at a sign and then headed west on Highway 36 towards Hydesville at speeds exceeding 100 mph. Due to safety concerns for the public, the deputy ended the pursuit when Haselip drove through a 35 mph zone at high speed but continued following him safely. The deputy eventually found Haselip parked in a driveway and detained him without further incident.

It was discovered that Haselip was driving with a suspended license. He was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility with charges including evading peace officers recklessly (VC 2800.2), evading peace officers against traffic (VC 2800.4), and driving with a suspended license (VC 14601.1(a)).

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office encourages anyone with information about this case or related criminal activities to contact them at (707) 445-7251 or via their Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.
