The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has announced plans to gather public feedback on their proposal for the 2025 State of California Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) grant program. This initiative aims to ensure transparency and community involvement in the decision-making process.

According to state requirements, public comment can be submitted between March 5, 2024, through May 6, 2024. During this period, individuals are encouraged to share their perspectives on the grant application to help shape the future of law enforcement activities related to off-highway vehicles.

Sgt. Gomes emphasized the importance of public participation, stating, "We are seeking input specific to the 2024 cooperative agreement with the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Division. This grant will support various law enforcement activities, including visitor safety, OHV patrols, and public education on environmental issues and proper riding techniques."

The State of California follows a meticulous two-step application process, providing an opportunity for public comment and feedback before the final submission deadline. Those interested in reviewing the preliminary application and sharing their thoughts can visit the California State OHV Grants and Cooperative Agreements program website at http://www.ohv.parks.ca.gov. By selecting the grants tab and accessing "Public Review Instructions," stakeholders can actively participate in the decision-making process.

As the public review period progresses from March 5, 2024, to May 6, 2024, individuals are encouraged to engage with the grant application and provide valuable feedback. Final applications, incorporating any received comments, are due on June 3, 2024, ensuring that community input is considered in the grant submission process.

For any inquiries or grant-related questions, individuals are encouraged to reach out to Sgt. Gomes at (707) 268-2538 or via email at agomes@co.humboldt.ca.us. Your feedback and involvement are crucial in shaping the utilization of OHV grants for the benefit of the community and the environment.
