A male subject named Michael Matthew Black was arrested following threats made against another individual. According to Humboldt County Sheriff's deputies, Black had threatened the individual with a hatchet at a residence on Berry Road in Trinidad. The deputies located Black's truck at his residence after he had left the scene.
Black had a history of threatening individuals with weapons and displaying aggressive behavior in recent weeks. Due to this pattern of behavior, deputies had probable cause to arrest Black for Criminal Threats and other criminal charges.
During the arrest attempt, Black fled into a wooded area behind his home on a tractor, acting erratically and making suicidal statements. He also threatened law enforcement officers. After a standoff, Black surrendered without further incident.
Black was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges including Threaten Crime with Intent to Terrorize, Brandishing a Deadly Weapon, Elder Abuse, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Obstruct/Resist a Police Officer, and Probation Violation.
