Jared Huffman, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 2nd district, recently expressed his concerns over the Trump administration's decision to eliminate the Department of Education and reduce support for public education. Huffman has been serving in Congress since 2013, succeeding Lynn Woolsey, and has a background in law with degrees from the University of California, Santa Barbara and Boston College.

On March 20, 2025, Huffman tweeted about President Trump's educational policy changes: "Trump is eliminating the Department of Education and cutting support for public education. He's failing not only our students and teachers, but the entire country. Public education shapes our future – and Trump is now compromising it to pay for tax cuts for billionaires."

Later that day, Huffman continued his critique by highlighting potential consequences: "Dismantling the Department of Education only means larger class sizes, less support for kids, and fewer opportunities for students – especially for students with disabilities and from low-income families. Yet that's exactly what Trump has done – and we must put a stop to this."

The following day on March 21, Huffman shared his engagement with young constituents at Terra Linda High School in California: "I'm constantly amazed by the engaged and passionate young people in #CA02 – and I loved speaking with some of them at Terra Linda High School this week. Top of our list was discussing impacts of Trump abolishing the Department of Education, and ways students can get involved."
