Jared Huffman criticizes Trump's actions as threat to democracy

Rep. Jared Huffman, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California's 2nd District since 2013, has recently expressed concerns regarding actions taken by former President Donald Trump through a series of tweets. Huffman, who has served in Congress following his tenure in the California State Assembly, is vocal about what he perceives as threats to democracy and the impact on American families.

On January 28, 2025, Huffman criticized Trump's directives: "Trump is trying to be a dictator. He illegally ordered his cronies to strip away taxpayer dollars that folks rely on for health care, housing, cancer research, wildfire defense—you name it. This takeover is an unprecedented attack on democracy and hardworking American families."

The following day, January 29, Huffman commented on the national implications of Trump's actions: "Trump is throwing our country into utter chaos. Folks from every corner of my district are terrified of how this will impact life-saving programs they depend on. He is setting the stage to operate as a king—and the American people are paying the price."

Later that same day, Huffman addressed the administrative response to public outcry: "Trump's reckless move to stop funding for critical programs left millions of people in panic and confusion. The admin took a step back today to skirt laws and tamp down public outcry – but Trump’s executive orders to withhold funds are still alive and well."
